In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports handled 23 million tons of cargo, a decrease of 4.8 million tons compared to the same period last year.
This information was provided by the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.
According to the AMPU, the largest cargo handling volumes were recorded in the ports of Greater Odesa. Since the beginning of the year, they processed 20.7 million tons of cargo. Specifically, the Southern Port handled 10.6 million tons, the Chornomorsk Port 6.6 million tons, and the Odesa Port 3.5 million tons.
The ports of the Danube region — Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk — together processed over 2.3 million tons of cargo.
The decline in cargo volume is attributed to a reduction in agricultural land and a downturn in production in export-oriented sectors, particularly metallurgy, which exported up to 80% of its products before the war, as explained by the AMPU.
It is noted that globally, cargo handling is also decreasing due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
