Moldova is initiating an investigation into the property and financial declarations of Yevgenia Gutsul, the head of the autonomous region of Gagauzia, who is implicated in a case regarding illegal funding of the 'Shor' party.

This information was reported by Newsmaker, according to data from "European Truth".

The National Integrity Authority (ANI) has commenced an investigation based on a complaint filed on March 27.

The complaint alleged that Gutsul's declaration may contain violations. In particular, attention was drawn to significant monetary gifts received by Gutsul during family celebrations. This includes 23,000 euros and 220,000 Moldovan lei in 2023, as well as 4,000 euros and 170,000 lei in 2024. There are also questions about why Gutsul, who has owned property since 2019, is living in her sister's apartment.

Inspectors plan to check for any unjustified discrepancies between the head's income and expenses, as well as the legality of the sources of funds declared as gifts from private individuals.

It is worth noting that last week the court changed the preventive measure for Yevgenia Gutsul, placing her under house arrest.

Yevgenia Gutsul is a figure in a criminal case in Moldova, which has been under judicial review since April 2024. She is accused of regularly bringing money from Russia to Moldova to finance the political activities of the 'Shor' party while serving as its secretary from 2019 to 2022. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Moldova also accuses her of coordinating the activities of several party offices.
