Google has announced updates to several of its tools, including the «Manage Your Information» feature and the ability to remove unwanted images from search results.
This news was reported by The Tech crunch.
The «Manage Your Information» tool now allows users to remove search results containing their phone number, email address, or home address. Users can also request the removal of information like driver's license numbers, passport numbers, or social security numbers, as stated by the company.
Users can access the tool in the Google app by tapping on their Google account photo and selecting «Manage Your Information». First-time users will need to click «Get Started» and then add their personal contact information for tracking. They will then be prompted to enter their government ID numbers. Existing users can add their ID numbers and choose which ones they wish to track.
Once the data is confirmed, Google will automatically monitor search results and notify the user if it finds results containing the specified information. Google emphasizes that removing this information from search does not completely erase it from the Internet, but it can help maintain privacy.
The update will initially roll out in the United States over the coming days, with plans to expand to other regions later.
Additionally, Google has simplified the process of requesting the removal of unwanted explicit images from its search engine. Users can now simply click on the three dots next to an image, select «Remove result», and confirm that «This image is sexual in nature». Furthermore, there's no need to report images one by one, as multiple image requests can now be submitted simultaneously. Users can also track the status of all requests in the «Manage Your Information» section.
