A horrific accident occurred in Spain's Cordoba province where two high-speed trains collided and derailed, resulting in significant human loss.

According to emergency services reported by Sky News, the death toll continues to rise.

Initial reports from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior noted at least 21 fatalities, but the confirmed number has now reached 39.

The number of injured has also seen a substantial increase. Initially, over 100 were reported injured, but now around 170 individuals have sustained injuries of varying severity.

The President of Andalusia provided details regarding the hospitalized victims, stating that 75 individuals are currently receiving medical care.

Of these, 15 are in critical condition, including four children.

The regional leader expressed gratitude to the emergency services: “I am thankful to the medical staff for their swift actions that saved lives.”

The accident has paralyzed rail transport in the southern part of the country. It has been officially announced that high-speed train services between Madrid and the cities of Cordoba, Seville, Malaga, and Huelva will be completely suspended at least until the end of Monday.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has responded to the train disaster in Spain. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims near Cordoba.

In a post on social media platform X, the Ukrainian FM stated: “Tragic news from Cordoba, Spain, where a deadly train accident has claimed many lives. We share the pain of our Spanish friends and extend our condolences to the families of the victims. Wishing a swift recovery to the injured. Stay strong, dear Spanish friends.”

In Thailand, a construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train on January 14, killing at least 29 individuals and injuring many others.

The incident occurred at a construction site for an infrastructure project aimed at connecting Bangkok with Ubon Ratchathani.

In Mexico, a massive train disaster occurred in December when a passenger train derailed in the southern state of Oaxaca, resulting in at least 13 fatalities and nearly a hundred injuries.
