In Paris, a crucial meeting took place among the chiefs of staff of the armed forces from the "Coalition of the Willing", where new security guarantees for Ukraine and ways to implement them were discussed.
General Fabien Mandon, the French Chief of Staff, shared updates on social media platform X.
He noted that the meeting in the French capital included the UK Chief of Staff General Rich Knighton, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine General Andriy Hnatov, and the Commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe General Alexis Grinkevich.
"Discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine and the conditions for their implementation were central topics during the video conference with military leaders of the coalition," emphasized Mandon.
He added that the ongoing military cooperation, which has lasted for several months within the coalition and in partnership with the United States, is aimed at supporting political initiatives for achieving lasting peace in Europe.
Meeting in Paris
Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine's allies would gather in Paris on January 6 to discuss their contributions to future security guarantees for Kyiv in the event of a ceasefire with Russia.
This meeting is part of broader efforts to form a unified stance among Ukraine, Europe, and the United States, which could later be presented to the Russian side. Key topics of discussion included the potential deployment of foreign troops on Ukrainian territory following the establishment of a ceasefire.
Within the so-called "Coalition of the Willing", there are already countries that are open to their presence in Ukraine after hostilities cease. At the beginning of January, the President of Ukraine also announced that representatives from the general staffs and the defense sector were heading to Paris for a series of meetings.
Subsequently, a refinement of security documents is planned at the leadership level, focusing on security guarantees and the reconstruction of Ukraine. Following this, a series of meetings in the USA involving a broad range of states is scheduled.
