A small plane belonging to the Mexican Navy crashed in Texas, leading to the deaths of at least five individuals. CBS News reported this incident.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, two people were taken to the hospital, but their conditions remain unknown. One passenger, a 27-year-old man, was unharmed.
As of Monday evening, one person was still considered missing.
The Mexican Navy stated that there were eight people on board: four Navy officers and four civilians.
The U.S. Coast Guard later clarified to CBS News that while the plane could carry eight individuals, the exact number on board is still uncertain.
Two passengers were representatives of the Michou and Mau Foundation, a charity aiding Mexican children with severe burns.
The crash occurred on Monday at approximately 3:17 PM local time near the base of a dam close to Galveston, about 80 km southeast of Houston.
The Mexican Navy confirmed that the plane was on a medical mission when it crashed. They promised to investigate the cause of the accident.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to arrive at the crash site.
