The government has approved a new initiative that will allow the Diia app to introduce a service for filing European Protocols as early as the first quarter of 2026. This will significantly ease the process of recording minor road accidents and reduce the likelihood of errors in data submission. Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced this.
The European Protocol is a simplified procedure for reporting minor accidents without police involvement. Currently, drivers fill out documents manually or electronically, often leading to data errors that can result in insurance claim denials.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation stresses that the new digital service will greatly reduce the risk of such situations. Diia will automatically pull data from registries, meaning drivers will only need to provide a few parameters and upload photos.
The filing process will look as follows:
- create an accident report in Diia;
- receive pre-filled data from registries – with no risk of errors;
- upload photos from the scene;
- select the scheme, location, date, and time of the incident;
- send it to the other party for agreement;
- sign the document using Diia.Signature, which gives the application legal force.
The status of the European Protocol processing can be tracked in real-time in the Diia app. Automatic verification of information in registries will also eliminate insurance claim denials due to mistakes in names or vehicle numbers.
