The company "Ukrzaliznytsia" has signed an agreement with the Austrian firm Voestalpine Rail Technology GmbH for the supply of 10,000 tons of rails, which will be sufficient for the repair of 80 km of tracks. This was reported by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development.
According to the agreement, the supply of rails ensures regular capital repairs for an additional 80 km of track. The ministry stated: "Thanks to successful tenders, we managed to lower the price, allowing us to save significant funds to contract a new batch".
The procurement is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development within the framework of the project "Emergency Support for the Ukrainian Railway".
With this agreement, the total contracted amount of rails will reach 46,000 tons, allowing the repair of 358 km of tracks, the agency informs.
The new batch of rails will arrive after the completion of the main supplies, approximately from May 2026.
The statement notes: "The additional rails will enable the completion of capital repairs, increase the speed of train movement, and enhance the network's capacity, which is crucial for the stability of freight transport and infrastructure development"
