In Ukraine, November 21 marks the Day of Dignity, symbolizing the fight for freedom.
This day was established by a presidential decree in 2014, honoring two pivotal events in Ukrainian history: the Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Revolution of Dignity of 2013.
The Day of Dignity replaced the Day of Freedom, which was celebrated from 2005 to 2011. In 2011, the then-president abolished this holiday, merging it with the Day of Unity.
On November 21, 2013, mass protests began in Kyiv in response to the government's decision to suspend European integration. Initially, several hundred people took to the streets, but within three days, their numbers swelled to over a hundred thousand.
Unlike the events of the Orange Revolution, this struggle cost many Ukrainian lives: over a hundred people were killed, and thousands were injured. In the spring of 2014, Russia launched a military aggression, accompanied by the occupation of Crimea and parts of Donbas.
This year, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Dignity for the fourth consecutive year amidst the full-scale invasion by Russia, which has been ongoing since February 24, 2022. The country is once again fighting for its freedom and independence.
In Kyiv and other cities, various events will take place to honor the Day of Dignity – under the slogan “November 21... and every day, without weekends.” The program includes exhibitions, forums, film screenings, and theatrical performances.
In the capital, on November 21, an interfaith prayer for Ukraine is planned, along with flower laying at the Alley of Heroes, a “Memorial Bell” event, and the consecration of the monument “Angels in White Coats.”

The General Staff of the Armed Forces noted that the Revolution of Dignity exemplified nobility, courage, and self-sacrifice, forever changing the history of Ukraine.
“On November 21, 2025, we will celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Orange Revolution, which significantly influenced the development of national consciousness and democratization in Ukraine,” the General Staff stated.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine honor the dignity of the Ukrainian people and all the heroes who have resisted aggression and fought for freedom throughout the centuries.
“Today we pay tribute to the patriotism of those who have defended democratic values and national interests of Ukraine,” emphasized the General Staff.
Participants of the Revolution of Dignity played a crucial role in shaping the new Armed Forces, many of whom went directly to the front lines and became reform leaders.
“Our deep gratitude goes to the soldiers who defend the state and assist the victims of aggression,” the General Staff highlighted.
