The Ukrainian government has approved new rules for citizenship for citizens from five countries, including Canada and Germany.

The Ukrainian government has thus approved a list of countries whose citizens will have an easier path to Ukrainian citizenship. This includes Canada, Germany, Poland, the USA, and the Czech Republic. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine passed this resolution.
Citizens from these countries will be able to acquire Ukrainian citizenship without renouncing their original citizenship.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, around three million ethnic Ukrainians reside in these five countries. The simplification of the citizenship process may encourage them to reconnect with their Ukrainian roots.
It is noteworthy that in January, a law on dual citizenship, passed in July, will come into full effect. The Ukrainian authorities are thus trying to alleviate the demographic crisis.
As a reminder, since the onset of the full-scale war, over 120 Russians and Belarusians have received Ukrainian citizenship.
