President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the heating season in Ukraine will start on October 28. He made this statement during a press briefing held on October 27.
According to him, the government has found financing – approximately 70% of the required amount – for gas imports.
«Gas is essential for heating. We have secured 70% of the necessary funding for gas. The government will cover the total amount», Zelensky explained.
The heating season has already started for the social sector.
On October 25, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that each region decides on the start of the heating season independently, but it could begin in the coming days as temperatures drop.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko mentioned that this year's heating season will be the most challenging during the ongoing full-scale war.
Last week, the government allocated 8.4 billion hryvnias from the reserve fund for the heating season, which will be received by Naftogaz of Ukraine for the purchase of imported natural gas.
According to the legislation, the heating period starts no later than when the average daily temperature is 8 degrees Celsius or lower for three consecutive days and ends when the average daily temperature exceeds 8 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.
