The drop in temperatures and the delay in the heating season in Ukraine have resulted in a sharp increase in electricity consumption nationwide - by over 20% compared to the start of the month, stated the chairman of "Ukrenergo" Vitaliy Zaychenko.
"We hope that in the near future, within ten days, heat supply will be restored across Ukraine, which will lead to a decrease in electricity consumption. Many consumers are currently heating using electricity - via air conditioners and heaters," he said during a telethon.
Zaychenko also noted that in the past seven years, residential consumers have become the largest electricity consumers in Ukraine, so changes in their behavior could significantly help stabilize the situation, particularly regarding the avoidance of high-power appliances during peak load times.
