On Monday, October 20th, an explosion occurred at the «Lukoil» oil refinery in Ploiesti, Romania. As a result of the incident, one person was injured, according to Digi24.
The explosion took place in the economic operator's facility within the refinery, but there was no fire.
A mobile intensive care unit assisted a 57-year-old man who was conscious but suffered facial and left leg injuries. The victim was promptly transported to the local emergency unit.
It is noted that major renovation work has been ongoing at the plant, which began a few days prior.
The incident occurred amid extensive drone strikes by Ukraine on oil refineries in Russia, leading to a significant fuel crisis in the country. Due to these attacks, several Russian regions and occupied Ukrainian territories have imposed restrictions on fuel sales, and the authorities have even been forced to ban exports.
The fuel shortage has resulted in widespread gas station closures, particularly in Moscow. Reports indicate that at least 57 regions are already feeling the effects of the gasoline shortage caused by the shutdown of refineries. To partially stabilize the situation, the Kremlin has even resumed gasoline purchases from Belarus.
