Restoration of Power Supply at Zaporizhzhia NPP

Repair works on external power lines at Zaporizhzhia NPP have begun after a power outage.

Repair efforts to restore damaged external power lines at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant have commenced following a four-week power interruption. This was announced by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi in a post on social media platform X.
According to Grossi, this development followed the establishment of local ceasefire zones, allowing for the continuation of repair work at the ZNPP.
“Restoring external power supply is crucial for nuclear safety and security. Both parties have constructively engaged with the IAEA to implement this complex repair plan,” he noted.

It is important to remember that the last external power line to the ZNPP was disconnected on September 23. The backup line had been severed by Russian forces back in May, and since then, the occupiers have not provided any security guarantees for the repair teams of NEC “Ukrenergo.” Energoatom confirmed that the external power line for the Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukrainian-controlled territory is functioning properly. However, the Russian side deliberately refuses to reconnect the plant to the power supply, continuing a blatant disinformation campaign against Ukraine. On October 2, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Russia intentionally disconnected the Zaporizhzhia NPP from the Ukrainian power grid and is preparing to reconnect it to its own energy system.
