A new sensory room has been launched at Kyiv Children's Hospital No. 1 specifically designed for children with visual impairments. This unique space allows children to explore the world through light, sound, touch, and movement, enhancing their sensory skills, spatial orientation, and self-confidence. This was reported by the Health Department of the Kyiv City State Administration.

The room hosts both individual and group sessions with specialists who assist children in learning spatial orientation, fine motor skills, and social abilities.

In addition to the sensory rooms, various services are offered in the capital's medical facilities for children with visual impairments. These include:

  • diagnosis and treatment (medicinal or physiotherapeutic);
  • comprehensive examinations, vision correction with glasses, special exercises, and methods of sensory integration;
  • surgical intervention for serious visual impairments;
  • rehabilitation and sensory activities.

Medical assistance for children with eye diseases is available on an outpatient basis at eight consultative-diagnostic centers owned by the Kyiv community. Inpatient care is provided at the Kyiv City Children's Clinical Hospital No. 2 and the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 6.

As of 2025, over 22,000 children and adolescents with eye diseases are registered, with more than 200 of them classified as disabled.

The Department emphasizes that to preserve a child’s vision, it is important to:

  • regularly undergo preventive examinations (conducted at pediatric clinics based on residence);
  • monitor the work and rest regime of the eyes, especially during study and gadget use;
  • if necessary, carry out early vision correction—using glasses or special exercises.
