On November 28, a pivotal event took place in Kyiv, marking a meaningful step towards a judicial system where children's rights are more than just a legal formality.

The seminar focused on launching a project to specialize judges in family and child cases, bringing together top experts and international partners to initiate changes that will impact the lives of thousands of children.

Why does this matter beyond reform?

Imagine a court where decisions are made with children's needs in mind, where judges do not merely know the law but also understand child psychology and listen to their voices.

This vision will become a reality through the specialization of judges, supported by the Cassation Civil Court, the Interagency Coordination Council on Minors, UNICEF, and the All-Ukrainian Volunteer Center.

Three essential steps towards change:

  • Pilot courts will implement specialization — judges will undergo training and work in multidisciplinary teams alongside psychologists, lawyers, and child protection agencies.
  • Training for specialists on ensuring safe family environments and understanding children's rights.
  • Creating a welcoming environment for children — courts will feature special rooms designed to minimize stress for the youngest participants.

This pilot project is just the beginning. Its success will lay the groundwork for legislative changes and the development of a judicial system that prioritizes children's interests.

This is not merely about reforms. It’s about care, humanity, and building a world where every child feels secure.
