Ukraine has initiated an innovative network of battery systems designed to maintain a stable electricity supply, even during Russian assaults on critical energy infrastructure. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal.
The battery systems, supplied by the American company Fluence, are capable of supporting the energy grid in the event of damage caused by enemy attacks, the publication states.
According to WSJ, the implementation of this secret battery network cost approximately $140 million, with completion in August of this year.
Six facilities located in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions are already supplying electricity to the grid in case of outages due to shelling.
The total capacity of the secret battery parks is 200 MW, allowing them to store up to 400 MWh of electricity, which can power 600,000 households for two hours. Each block can be easily replaced if damaged without affecting the others.
To prevent enemy destruction of the battery parks, Ukraine keeps their locations and protection measures (such as air defense systems) confidential, the publication adds.

Additionally, it was previously reported that "Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo" will receive $630 million from the State Budget reserve fund for the construction of protective structures.
The Cabinet of Ministers has modified public procurement rules during martial law and for 90 days after its conclusion to enable "Ukrenergo" to finish building protective structures at substations.
On October 3rd, Russian forces conducted a massive attack on Ukraine's gas extraction infrastructure.
