In the UK, Ukrainian artist Maria Proshkovska has launched an international project titled Making Oddkin. The exhibition is concurrently held at the OUTPOST Gallery in Norwich and the Center for Contemporary Art in Zaporizhzhia. Visitors can explore this showcase from October 4 to 26.

In her work, the artist centers on the theme of grain affected by war. She reinterprets grain as a symbol of memory and recovery. Maria employs mixtures of clay, water, and grain ash to highlight the significance of collaboration and interdependence in the rebuilding process.

The aim of the exhibition is to draw attention to the importance of grain for Ukraine and the complex processes of wheat production and distribution amidst war.

“One of the foundations of my practice is to find common values with other cultures, which helps to create new connections between Ukraine and other countries. This is evident in the Making Oddkin project,” said Maria Proshkovska.

Additionally, the exhibition will feature a performance by the artist on October 4 and 5. According to curators, this part of the project acts as cultural diplomacy, aiming to remind the local audience in the UK about the realities faced by Ukrainian farmers today.

The exhibition is part of the Platforma 2025 biennale, which brings together artists with migration experiences, and is realized in partnership with the AIDA Foundation of the charitable initiative Havas Village.

Maria Proshkovska is a conceptual and socially engaged artist from Kyiv, living between Ukraine and the UK. Her works focus on gender social studies, the impact of trauma on society, and feminism.
