The Danish military intelligence has accused Russian naval vessels of repeated aggressive actions in Danish straits connecting the Baltic and North Seas. These provocations included targeting Danish ships and helicopters with weapon systems, executing dangerous maneuvers that nearly caused collisions, and jamming navigation systems. This information was reported by Reuters.
Amid rising tensions in the Baltic region, linked to incidents involving underwater cables and airspace violations, Denmark has reported a new series of targeted provocations by the Russian Navy.
Thomas Arentkjær, the director of Danish military intelligence, revealed specific facts about the aggressive behavior of Russian military forces at a special press conference.
"We have witnessed several incidents in Danish straits where Danish Air Force helicopters and naval vessels were targeted by Russian military ships' weapon systems," he stated.
According to him, Russian vessels also deliberately approached a collision course with Danish ships during their transit through the straits.
Arentkjær reported that one Russian military ship has been anchored in Danish waters for over a week. Intelligence views this as a signal from Moscow to apply force if Denmark attempts to restrict the movement of the Russian "shadow fleet" – tankers used to circumvent Western sanctions on oil exports.
Additionally, intelligence has documented the passage of Russian vessels through the straits with active sonars and electronic warfare equipment. Arentkjær indicated that "it is highly likely" that in at least one case, they caused significant GPS disruptions within Denmark.
"Russia employs military means, including aggressive tactics, to exert pressure on us without crossing the threshold of armed conflict in the traditional sense," Arentkjær summarized, labeling these actions as part of a hybrid war against Denmark and the West.
On Friday, the White House stated that it takes the information regarding Russian fleet provocations against Denmark "very seriously."
"The administration is continuously monitoring the situation. The National Security Council is in constant communication with our NATO allies, and the president is in touch with many of them," said White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt to reporters.
Background: The day before, The Telegraph published analysis results of the route of the tanker Boracay, which belongs to Russia's "shadow fleet." Its movements in the Baltic Sea suspiciously coincide with dates of unidentified drones appearing over strategic sites in Denmark and Germany.
