The ongoing incursions of drones into the airspace of European Union member states highlight the urgent need for a "drone defense system" that would safeguard the entire EU.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the European Commission, Toma Renier, during a press briefing in Brussels on October 3, commenting on the appearance of unidentified drones in Belgium, as reported by the correspondent of "European Truth".
"The entire European Union is under threat" - emphasized the spokesperson Toma Renier.
He informed that the European Commission is aware of the situation in member states and maintains political contacts with them.
"Member states must conduct their investigations to determine the origins of these drones and the specific risks they may pose to those countries" - said the EC spokesperson.
Renier noted that the recent drone incursions into EU airspace "once again underscore what President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner Kubilius said in Denmark: there is a need for a 'drone wall' that would protect the entire European Union".
He added that this incident with drones occurred not only in Belgium but also in Germany.
"You are no longer just talking about frontline countries. You are no longer just talking about the eastern flank countries. You are truly discussing the European Union as a whole", – emphasized Toma Renier.
