Lombardy faces severe floods and landslides due to heavy rainfall. The impact of the climate crisis is being investigated.

On Monday, parts of Milan experienced flooding, while landslides occurred in the province of Como, as the Lombardy region was severely affected by a wave of heavy rains sweeping across northern Italy. This was reported by ANSA.

The most intense floods were noted in the Niguarda area of Milan, where the Seveso River overflowed its banks. Additionally, the provinces of Monza and Varese were also significantly impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

Firefighters were called to conduct dozens of emergency operations related to the extreme weather conditions in Lombardy, as stated in the report.

According to scientists, the climate crisis, driven by greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, is leading to an increase in both the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, including heatwaves, droughts, severe storms, and floods.

Despite the existence of numerous sources of greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, the primary factor remains the burning of fossil fuels, such as oil, gas, and coal, the sale of which yields enormous profits for global energy companies.
