The government of the Czech Republic has decided to establish a new coordination group focused on protecting the country from hostile drones.

This was announced by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, as reported by Radio Prague International.

According to the Prime Minister, the group's main task will be to monitor technological developments and devise appropriate safety measures.

"We need to be prepared for threats posed by Russian drones. Our top priority is to ensure the safety of our citizens and to be ready for any potential threats. This is why we have decided to create a coordination group under the State Security Council to protect against drones," Fiala stated.

He added that the group will include experts from various ministries such as defense, internal affairs, transport, as well as representatives from the Czech army and police.

"This step is another important measure to enhance the security of our citizens. Thus, we are strengthening the protection of our country from the new threats we observe nearby," the Prime Minister emphasized.

He noted that this decision aligns with the current challenges posed by the war in Ukraine.

"We are obligated to pay close attention to the protection against drones," Fiala remarked.

Defense Minister Jana Černochová stated that the government aims to pursue a multi-layered air defense strategy that extends beyond just drones.

"The fact that we are currently concluding a tender for the procurement of several hundred drones of various types also fits into this concept," she said.

It is worth noting that on September 10, around twenty Russian drones violated Polish airspace. Debris was found in various regions of the country, with some drones flying nearly 300 km from the eastern border. In response, the North Atlantic Alliance decided to initiate an operation called "Eastern Sentry" to strengthen its eastern flank. Already on September 13, Poland reported the actual start of the announced mission.
