The General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency has adopted a resolution titled «Nuclear Safety, Physical Nuclear Security, and Safeguards in Ukraine», urging Russia to immediately de-occupy the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

"The resolution includes a direct call for the urgent withdrawal of all unauthorized military and other personnel from the ZNPP. The document confirms that the Zaporizhzhia NPP and all nuclear facilities in Ukraine must operate under the full sovereign control of competent Ukrainian authorities," the statement said.

The document also reaffirmed the mandate and ongoing operations of the IAEA mission at the ZNPP despite constant attempts by Russia to undermine its activities.

Additionally, the resolution recalled Russian strikes on the Chernobyl zone and the damage to the New Safe Confinement, which poses risks to international nuclear safety.

"We are grateful to every country that supported this important document. 62 votes in favor represent a clear stance of the civilized world: nuclear terrorism is unacceptable, and the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by Russia must be immediately returned to Ukrainian control. We will continue to work with the IAEA and our partners to ensure the implementation of every point of this resolution," commented Ukraine's Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.

Ukraine insists on increasing international pressure on Russia for the full and unconditional compliance with all IAEA resolutions and the return of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukrainian control.

As a reminder, the ZNPP has been under occupation since March 4, 2022. Since then, the IAEA has repeatedly passed resolutions regarding the return of the facility to Ukrainian control. None of these resolutions have been implemented.
