The Polish authorities have confirmed that the border with Belarus will remain closed until the ban is lifted due to threats stemming from military drills in Belarus.

This information was reported by Polish Radio.

Karolina Galecka, spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety of citizens.

The primary focus of the Ministry is the protection of citizens, which is the basis for the border closure decision.

According to the official statement, cross-border movement will only be restored once the situation is deemed safe.

Interior Minister Marcin Kerwinowski on Monday, September 15, noted that the border closure is directly related to the threat posed by ongoing military exercises in Belarus.

“We are continuously monitoring the situation. I hope the border closure will not be prolonged, but the exercises are still ongoing. We will see what conclusions we draw after the active phase of the exercises concludes,” Kerwinowski said.

It is worth mentioning that on September 9, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the border with Belarus would be closed at midnight on Thursday, September 11, due to the upcoming Russian-Belarusian military exercises “West-2025” near the Polish border. These exercises are scheduled from September 12 to 16.
