The Kyiv authorities are seeking ways to maintain the current transport fares - price increases will not be considered until the war is over.
This was stated by the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, on his Telegram channel.
He emphasized that public transport in the capital is subsidized, with a gap of 11 billion UAH per year between the current fare and the economically justified one.
"These funds come from Kyiv's budget. In the current conditions, when the city has lost 8 billion (for Ukrzaliznytsia!), there won't be enough planned subsidies from the budget. Therefore, the Finance Department, having analyzed expenses with this deficit, has once again suggested reconsidering the adjustment of existing fares," Klitschko noted.
He also pointed out that a billion UAH is spent from the city budget on free transportation for the privileged, which the state does not compensate.
"Currently, we are doing everything possible to support people in a difficult social situation. The central government has done everything to take away the city's ability to maintain transport fares. We are now looking for ways to correct this situation and preserve the existing fares. As I mentioned earlier, we will not consider increasing transport fares until the war is over!" Klitschko concluded.
