On the night of September 9, a strong earthquake hit Evia, Greece's second-largest island, and was felt in the capital, Athens.

The quake, measuring 5.2, struck at 00:27 local time in the southwest region of Evia, alarming residents in Athens located to the southwest of the epicenter.
According to the Athens Institute of Geodynamics, the earthquake occurred five kilometers northwest of the town of Nea Stira, at a depth of 13.6 kilometers.
Stergios Tsirkas, the mayor of Marathon, situated on the southern shore of the Evian Gulf from Nea Stira, stated that the earthquake was “very intense,” but as of now, there are no reports of significant damage.
The mayor of Karystos, located in southern Evia, also reported that his office has not received any damage reports.
