The Lithuanian government has unveiled a new security system aimed at promptly notifying the public about potential threats from drones. In the event of detecting hazardous drones, residents will receive alerts via mobile phones and hear sirens.

This was reported by LRT.

According to the new protocols, upon the detection of a dangerous drone, sirens will be activated, and notifications will be sent to citizens' phones.

Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich stated, "If a drone enters Lithuanian airspace and is deemed potentially dangerous, a red alert level may be declared".

Should the military determine that a drone does not pose an immediate threat, a yellow alert level will be announced.

The updated protocols also entail enhanced monitoring of airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine to address any potential appearance of drones over Lithuania.

This procedure was revised following two incidents where Russian drones "Gerbera" crossed into Lithuania from Belarus, one reportedly carrying 2 kg of explosives.

It is worth noting that in late August, a drone, believed to be Ukrainian, entered Estonian territory. Additionally, amendments to legislation were initiated to simplify the process for downing dangerous drones. At the end of August, five EU countries requested the European Commission to increase funding for border protection due to drone threats.
