Recently, there has been a significant increase in incidents related to GPS signal interference in the Baltic Sea, caused by Russian jamming sources.

This information was released by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

«On September 4, the Swedish transport agency Transportstyrelsen reported a sharp increase in cases of GPS signal interference in the Baltic Sea. This year, there have been 733 incidents recorded, compared to 495 in 2024 and only 55 in 2023. Experts note that the jamming sources are located in Russia», the statement reads.

According to the European Commission, the issue has become systemic. In 2025, 13 EU member states reported nearly daily instances of signal jamming and falsification. According to estimates from the Estonian regulatory authority, 85% of flights in the country encounter navigation disruptions. There is an increase in Russian electronic warfare installations near borders with the Baltic states, Poland, and Finland.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that Russia's systemic interference with GPS poses a threat to civilian air travel and international security. These hybrid attacks are part of a broader strategy by Russia to undermine Europe’s resilience and reduce support for Ukraine by intimidating the population.

FT reported that Russian electronic jamming forced a plane carrying the President of the European Commission to land in Plovdiv using paper maps.
