Currently, Ukraine is experiencing a seasonal increase in COVID-19 infections, but there is no epidemic threat detected.
This was stated by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko during a TV interview.
"We are observing an increase in COVID-19 cases, but we do not see any evidence of epidemic or pandemic potential in the circulating strains. The rise is similar to what we saw last year, but it is typical before the epidemic season," the minister noted.
He emphasized that respiratory viral infections, including coronavirus, can be severe if self-treatment is pursued or if the individual belongs to a risk group. According to him, the risk group includes the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. Lyashko also pointed out that there are enough hospital beds available, and there is no overloading of infectious disease departments. Currently, there are no plans for new quarantine restrictions, but readiness for potential measures during the epidemic season is essential.
