Forest fires that have swept through Greece have been partially contained, yet the threat level remains alarmingly high.
According to Ekathimerini, on the island of Chios, the fire front between the villages of Leptopoda and Kampia was still active on Friday morning.
In the Halkidiki region, where a fire broke out in the forest of Stratoni on Thursday evening, the situation has improved, but 60 firefighters are still engaged in extinguishing efforts.
In Achaia, the conditions look better, with two arrests made following yesterday's flare-up.
Additionally, the fire in the broader area of Sichaina in Patras has been extinguished, although firefighting forces remain on standby.
Today, the risk of forest fires is very high in Attica, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as well as in the northern and southern Aegean Sea.
Spain has endured forest fires throughout the season, but this week has been particularly devastating, with tens of thousands of hectares burned and many people forced to evacuate.
Sadly, across the country, three lives have been lost, including two volunteer firefighters.
