In the northern Polish city of Sopot, the prosecutor's office has initiated an investigation into 36-year-old Ukrainian Igor G., suspected of infringing on critical infrastructure - the water supply system. According to Ukrinform, he has been detained for three months, facing up to eight years in prison, as reported by Polsat News.

The arrest took place on July 21. Igor G. is accused of trespassing into the deep-water well of Sopot's water supply system, located within the Tricity Landscape Park, and damaging the water supply equipment.

Prosecutor Mariusz Duszynski from the Gdańsk District Prosecutor's Office stated that Igor G. has been charged with three offenses: destruction of water supply network elements in Sopot, damage to five electrical cabinets, and illegal appropriation of a document belonging to a victim.

The Ukrainian partially admitted his guilt, particularly regarding the destruction of the power cable of the water supply electrical cabinet and three electrical cabinets.

The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of temporary detention for three months.

Meanwhile, the local sanitary and epidemiological station tested water samples from Sopot's water supply station and confirmed that the water is safe for consumption.

The prosecutor's accusations against Igor G. include infringing on infrastructure (which carries a penalty of imprisonment from six months to eight years), destruction of property (imprisonment from three months to five years), and using another person's document (fine, restriction of liberty, or imprisonment for up to two years).

According to the prosecutor's office, the destruction of the water supply infrastructure occurred on July 15.

As reported by the publication Rzeczpospolita, Igor G. had attempted to access another reservoir the week before but was frightened away by a passerby. The case is being investigated by the Polish Internal Security Agency.
