Today, Ukraine celebrates a day dedicated to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This important holiday is observed on the first Sunday of August, according to a presidential decree issued on June 27, 2007.
The history of aviation worldwide is closely intertwined with Ukrainian achievements. Notable figures like Oleksandr Mozaichskyi, who designed one of the first aircraft, Mykola Kibalchych, the pioneer of rocket theory, and Oleksandr Zasyadko, the creator of military missiles, all hailed from Ukraine. The names of Kyiv's Igor Sikorsky and Dmytro Hryhorovych have become globally recognized due to their contributions to aviation.
Ukrainian ace pilots such as Kostiantyn Artseulov and Volodymyr Dyboivskyi were among the first to master the skill of recovering aircraft from a spin. Pilot Yevgraf Kruten laid the foundations of fighter aviation tactics, which are still applied in modern aerial combat.
Currently, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine comprises not only aviation units but also air defense components, including surface-to-air missile systems, radio engineering troops, and special forces.
