The Ukrainian Railways, in collaboration with the State Emergency Service, the Red Cross rapid response team, and the Juvenile Police, organized safety training exercises for children.
According to Ukrainian Railways, 18 children have died this year due to violations of safety regulations.
«This alarming statistic often originates from games that tragically end in disaster. Clinging to trains is a dangerous „hobby“ where teens latch onto the outside of trains for likes and views», — railway workers emphasize regarding this deadly trend.
This perilous pastime poses risks to the lives of thrill-seekers, passengers, and railway employees. To prevent such tragedies, it is vital to teach children safe behaviors and demonstrate the potential consequences of such games. That is why Ukrainian Railways, in concert with the State Emergency Service, the Red Cross rapid response team, and the Juvenile Police, conducted rescue training for kids.
During the simulation, over 100 railway workers and rescuers practiced all necessary steps for rescue during a fire caused by clinging:
- de-energizing the overhead line;
- evacuating passengers;
- assisting the injured;
- coordinating rescue services.
More than 60 children aged 5 to 16 observed the process. Following the simulation, a special safety lesson was held for the children, teaching them how to recognize mine or fire hazards. Throughout the year, all railway staff undergo mandatory training in safety and first aid. We will continue to organize sessions for children to foster a conscious approach to railway safety and prevent tragic incidents.
