Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 5,857 individuals have been freed from captivity, and an additional 555 outside of exchanges.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky in a Facebook post summarizing the results of a meeting with representatives of organizations involved in the release of captives.
«Today, I met with almost all of our team working on the release of captives. There were representatives from the headquarters, agencies involved in exchanges, the Office team, and our former captives, including defenders from various fronts, particularly from Mariupol, the «Azov» fighters, and our paramedic Tyra, as well as civilian Leniye Umerova, who was captured in Crimea», - noted Zelensky.
He expressed gratitude to everyone for the meeting. The participants honored the memory of the soldiers who lost their lives due to the Russian terror in Olenivka.
«We discussed the most important issues: the return of our people home, the current status of exchanges. We do not stop for a single day. Since the full-scale war began, we have returned a total of 5,857 individuals alive from captivity. Additionally, 555 individuals are outside of exchanges. As a result of exchanges conducted in Istanbul, over a thousand of our soldiers have been returned. We hope to also free those civilians who are still held in Russia», - emphasized Zelensky.
According to him, it is crucial to continue exchanges and check the situation for each individual.
«Each and every one is important. I thank everyone who is doing their utmost to make exchanges possible, and all our warriors who replenish the exchange fund for Ukraine», - concluded Zelensky.
