Alaska Airlines has once again halted all flights due to a significant failure in its IT system. This marks the second major incident for the airline within a year.

According to Reuters, the issues began on Sunday evening when the airline announced the suspension of all flights due to a technical glitch that occurred around 8 PM Pacific Time.

Company representatives confirmed that the repercussions of this issue will be felt throughout the evening, but no further details have been provided at this time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also refrained from commenting on the matter.

This incident is the second of its kind for Alaska Airlines in a year. Earlier, in April 2024, the airline suspended operations due to a failure in the system responsible for calculating aircraft weight and balance.

Additionally, in June, Alaska's subsidiary, Hawaiian Airlines, experienced a hacker attack that impaired some of its IT systems. This incident coincided with warnings from Google and Palo Alto Networks about the activity of a hacker group called “Scattered Spider” that is reportedly interested in the aviation sector.

Alaska Air Group operates a fleet of 238 Boeing aircraft and 87 Embraer planes. The company has not yet commented on the possible involvement of a cyberattack in the latest failure.
