On July 15, Volodymyr Mykyta, a renowned artist and a classic of the Transcarpathian school of painting, passed away in Uzhhorod at the age of 94.
This was reported by his daughter, Olena Yurchenko-Mykyta.
"Today, another star has ascended with the first evening star – the soul of our Nyan'ko, our Didi, and Pra-Didi. He will forever remain with us in the multifaceted images of his creations. Every painting breathes his essence. Rest in peace. May you reign in the heavens…" – wrote Yurchenko-Mykyta.
Volodymyr Mykyta was born on February 1, 1931, in the village of Rakoshino in the Transcarpathian region, becoming one of the classics of the Transcarpathian painting school.
He was honored as a distinguished artist of Ukraine, a people's artist of Ukraine, a member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and a laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize.
Among his teachers were the luminaries of the Transcarpathian painting school – Adalbert Erdely and Fedor Manaylo. The artist created hundreds of works, which are preserved in national and art museums throughout the country, as well as in private collections.
Mykyta participated in regional, all-Union, and international exhibitions in Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, France, Italy, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Austria, and Canada. He was also a participant in international biennales, including in Helsinki (Finland) in 1963, Košice (Slovakia) in 1974, and Venice (Italy) in 1984.
Since 2019, a permanent exhibition of the artist's works has been held at the Mukachevo Castle "Palanok", and near his studio, there is a private museum of Mykyta, where the artist himself conducted tours for visitors.
