On Wednesday, July 9, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that "all diplomatic means" for resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine have been exhausted, and he reaffirmed the commitment to provide further assistance to Ukraine.
This statement was made during budget debates in the Bundestag, according to "European Truth".
Merz also noted that Germany will continue to support Ukraine despite the resistance from pro-Russian forces in parliament.
"We must objectively assess the current dangerous situation. We need to make significant decisions. We will continue to assist Ukraine, regardless of the opposition in this parliament. Our support will persist", – he assured.
The Chancellor emphasized: "the means and resources of diplomacy have been exhausted".
"Diplomatic means are exhausted when an aggressive regime openly threatens the existence of an entire nation, using military force, and seeks to destroy the political systems of freedom across Europe. I, as the head of the federal government, will do everything possible to prevent this", – Merz highlighted.
It is worth noting that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced in June that Germany would provide an additional military aid package to Ukraine worth 1.9 billion euros.
Furthermore, Germany is actively engaged in "intensive negotiations" with the USA regarding the supply of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.
