The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has declared a state of emergency for Kerr County in Texas due to sudden floods, which have resulted in at least 61 deaths.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that his decision aims to provide rescuers with the necessary resources to address the aftermath of this tragedy.

Quote: "I have just signed an emergency declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure our brave rescuers receive the necessary resources immediately. These families are facing an unimaginable tragedy — many lives have been lost, and many people are still missing".

The death toll from the floods in Texas rose to 67 on Sunday, including 21 children among the deceased.

According to Reuters, some experts question whether cuts in federal agencies during Trump's administration, particularly in the department overseeing the National Weather Service, may have hampered officials' ability to predict the scale of the flooding and issue necessary warnings.

Former director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Rick Spinrad noted that President Trump and his administration cut thousands of jobs in NOAA, leading to many meteorological offices being understaffed.
