Ukraine plans to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2026.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the opening of the OECD ministerial meeting.
"Despite the war, we continue to implement reforms across all sectors to strengthen the economy and prepare to enter the club of developed nations. We expect to join the OECD next year," Shmyhal stated.
He reminded that two years ago, an OECD program for Ukraine was launched, laying the groundwork for entry into the organization.
"In these two years, we have initiated 23 measures in collaboration with the OECD and joined eight legal instruments. We established an anti-corruption infrastructure and are close to fully implementing the State Anti-Corruption Program, which meets 80% of OECD criteria," he emphasized.
Among the achievements of the Ukrainian authorities within the OECD program, the Prime Minister also mentioned the scaling of digitalization, efforts in deregulation, and alignment with OECD standards in privatization and corporatization.
Shmyhal also reported that the OECD's economic review of Ukraine noted positive trends in managing public investments and creating a favorable investment environment, while the integrity review highlighted significant progress in combating corruption.
"As a result of our reforms, the experience of everyday corruption among Ukrainians has decreased from 70% to 15% in recent years. This is a paradigm shift towards European growth standards," Shmyhal concluded.
