On June 11 at 17:40, as part of the non-competitive program “War Archive/Evidence” at the international documentary film festival on human rights Docudays UA, the premiere of the film "Sledstva.Info" “Shot Dead: The Story of a Man Who Made it Home” will take place.

The film centers around the story of 45-year-old Oleksandr Stepanets, who in March 2022 was traveling from Kyiv to Irpin to hand over the keys to his cars to the territorial defense fighters. Unfortunately, he never reached his destination. Ten days later, his family had to identify the remains of his charred body – Oleksandr was killed by the occupiers with a shot to the head.

Director Taras Fedorenko and author Vladyslava Kobko meticulously reconstructed the circumstances of that day and uncovered the details surrounding Oleksandr Stepanets' death. They managed to obtain unique audio interceptions, photographs, and video footage, as well as interviews with a Russian officer stationed on the Zhytomyr highway who knows who among his “brothers-in-arms” may have shot Oleksandr.

As noted by the editorial team, in April 2022, after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kyiv region, the world witnessed horrifying footage from the Zhytomyr highway. Dozens of civilian Ukrainians, primarily from Kyiv, attempted to escape westward from the bombings of the capital and its suburbs. Meanwhile, Russian troops established positions along the highway and opened fire on cars. Many Ukrainians, including adults and children, lost their lives on the Zhytomyr highway during those days.
