More than 200 artifacts seized by Ukrainian soldiers during fierce battles will be remembered as evidence of Russian aggression and a symbol of the courage of our defenders.
Recently, artifacts from the Russo-Ukrainian war were officially transferred to the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II, enriching its collection.
Major Oleg Shiryayev, commander of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Hero of Ukraine, personally handed over around 200 items captured by Ukrainian forces. Among them were fragments of enemy drones, personal weapons of the Russian military, equipment, insignia, and even awards.
During the event, the major spoke about the origins of these artifacts and the combat history of the 225th Regiment.
«Each of the transferred artifacts represents a living history of the struggle of the Ukrainian people. They remind us of fierce battles, the resilience of our warriors, and the price of freedom. These trophies will serve as significant evidence of Russian aggression, allowing future generations to better understand the events of the war, the strength of spirit, and the heroism of Ukraine’s defenders», noted Major Oleg Shiryayev.
The museum's director, Yuriy Savchuk, thanked the military for the historical artifacts donated to the museum, emphasizing their crucial role in preserving historical memory. They will serve as a source of knowledge about the war, helping to understand its consequences and the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers.
«Preserving historical artifacts is not just our duty but a way to pass on the truth to future generations. Each exhibit is a voice from the past that tells stories and reminds us of the strength of spirit, resilience, and the fight for freedom. Through these artifacts, we keep the memory of the heroes who defended our land alive and impart crucial lessons of history that shape national consciousness», stated Yuriy Savchuk.
This event marked another step in preserving historical memory and honoring the feats of Ukrainian soldiers who defend Ukraine’s independence daily.
It's worth noting that the 225th battalion was formed on March 8, 2022, within the 127th Territorial Defense Brigade of Kharkiv, uniting volunteers who stood up to defend the state and their hometown against an encroaching enemy.
In July 2023, the battalion transitioned from the Territorial Defense and was granted the status of a Separate Assault Battalion of the Ground Forces. It played a vital role in the counteroffensive near Bakhmut, securing the defense of the “Road of Life” in Avdiivka and holding back enemy forces for six months.
Currently, the 225th Separate Assault Battalion is actively participating in the Kursk operation, being the first unit to breach the enemy's borders and advance 29 kilometers into their territory within two days.
On February 4, 2025, the battalion officially received the status of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment.
