The simplified export regime for Ukrainian products to European Union countries will end on June 5. After this date, border trade rules will revert to those that existed prior to the full-scale invasion by Russia.
This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as reported by the Polish media RMF24.
End of "Visa-Free" Trade with the EU: What You Need to Know
Donald Tusk emphasized that the Polish government aims to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, but this should not come at the expense of Polish producers, particularly farmers.
"We have achieved this - from June 5, this mechanism will no longer exist. We are returning to the situation that existed before the war regarding border rules," the Polish politician said.
According to him, his government will prioritize Polish economic interests, even if they conflict with Ukrainian interests.
Government Seeks to Extend "Visa-Free" Trade with the EU
The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers hopes to negotiate with the European Commission to establish autonomous trade rules for Ukraine until June 5, 2025, which is when the current liberalization regime ends.
The European Union is preparing to implement significantly higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports in the coming weeks, which could severely impact Kyiv's economy at a critical moment in its struggle against Russian aggression.
Earlier, Ukraine and the European Union agreed to extend the agreement on the liberalization of freight transport until the end of 2025.
Thanks to this agreement, Ukrainian exports via road transport to EU countries increased by 42%, while imports into Ukraine via the same transport mode rose by 37%.
