The Ministry of Community Development and Territories of Ukraine has officially approved new rules for the implementation of smart tachographs, which provide automated monitoring and remote tracking of commercial drivers' working hours, as well as recording their speed and stopping points.
This was announced by Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach.
"Smart tachographs represent another step towards aligning with European standards in the transportation sector. The new mechanism for using smart tachographs has been officially approved under order No. 532, which has already been registered with the Ministry of Justice," Derkach emphasized.
According to him, this order will come into effect on May 27 after official publication.
Domestic transporters have been using modern equipment with built-in smart tachographs for some time, but previously, servicing or obtaining cards for them in Ukraine was not possible.
The new procedure includes approved samples of cards for smart tachographs and the ability to submit applications online, greatly simplifying the process compared to previous methods.
Among the key changes is the elimination of the requirement to have a calibration protocol for the tachograph onboard, which facilitates operations for both carriers and drivers.
Derkach also noted that cards for tachographs will be available for order after completing all technical procedures by the European Union.
