In Ivano-Frankivsk, doctors performed surgery on a 7-year-old boy, who was found to have swallowed 17 magnets.
This was reported on Facebook by Taras Melnyk, the director of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children's Clinical Hospital.
According to the director, the boy was brought to the hospital complaining of severe abdominal pain. During the examination, it was discovered that he had swallowed 17 neodymium magnets the day before.
“After additional examinations and preoperative preparation, the child underwent surgery – a laparotomy, resection of a segment of the small intestine with the creation of an entero-enteral anastomosis, and closure of a perforation in the small intestine,” Melnyk informed.
He noted that on the tenth day after the surgery, the boy was discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition for further recovery at home.
It is worth mentioning that neurosurgeons from the Lviv Clinical Center for Children's Medicine recently saved a two-month-old child by removing a brain tumor.
