The National Library of Ukraine named after Yaroslav the Wise in Kyiv hosted the presentation of a comprehensive study titled “War in the Labyrinths: History of Intelligence Services 1919-1945.” This work is the result of years of research by intelligence expert Igor Lander, published in five volumes.
In the monograph, the author analyzes significant political, military, and technological processes of the 20th century, publishing unique archival documents and describing the extent to which intelligence agencies influenced historical events.
Olya Mosyondz, a representative from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, attended the presentation. She pointed out that intelligence agencies have always been viewed as shadowy players in history, and this five-volume work offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the role of spies in the world.
“Even those not connected to intelligence should read these books. They allow a different perspective on events described in history textbooks and help form causal relationships. This research sheds light on several historical events,” said Olya Mosyondz.
According to her, this important documentary collection is already available at the library of Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine.
“These five volumes provide a complete understanding of the activities of various intelligence services, enabling the study of history and personalities through the lens of intelligence operations,” said former Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Major General Ilya Pavlenko, during the presentation.
