On October 1st, in honor of Ukraine's Defenders Day, the Kyiv History Museum and the National Union of Artists of Ukraine present the exhibition project 'Call sign: Artist'.
This exhibition serves as a genuine connection between those on the front lines and those supporting them from behind, illustrating the war through the lens of artistic expression. The works displayed are created by Kyiv-based artists who volunteered to defend their city in the early days of the full-scale invasion.
The exhibition features artworks from seven members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, including Serhiy Herasymenko, Vasyl Telychko-Evert, Artem Shevchenko, and others.
Each piece in the exhibit is a fragment of life captured on materials that have survived the war, such as charred wooden boards.
“This exhibition symbolizes art born in the crucible of the battle for the capital, becoming part of Kyiv's history, illustrating how we defend not only the land but also our dignity,” said the museum's director, Victoria Mukha.
'Call sign: Artist' is a space where art not only reflects reality but also shapes it. The exhibition demonstrates how art can be aesthetic, therapeutic, and sacred, transforming lived experiences into symbols of hope and victory.
“This exhibition is a testament that even in the furnace of war, one can create, love, and find meaning. It reminds us that art can be as powerful as a weapon, and sometimes even stronger, as it fights for souls, memory, and our victory,” emphasized Hanna Yarova, co-organizer of the project.
The exhibition runs until October 12th according to the museum's schedule: Wednesday-Sunday — from 12:00 to 19:00, Monday, Tuesday — closed.
Location: 7 Bohdan Khmelnytsky St., Museum and Exhibition Center.
