Today at the Boris Grinchenko Kyiv University, within the framework of the international campaign «16 Days Against Violence», an event titled «Unveiling the Truth about Violence» was held, aimed at increasing awareness about this shameful phenomenon and assisting in its eradication.
As reported by the University, students, faculty, representatives of NGOs, law enforcement, deputies, and experts in the field participated in the event. The moderator was Alla Shlapak, a deputy of the Kyiv City Council and Vice-Rector for Scientific and Educational Work and Innovative Development.
«Our university is actively involved in initiatives aimed at combating violence. We have a crisis center, psychological services, and channels for students and faculty to reach out. We always respond to such challenges», – said Acting Rector of the University Oleksandr Turuntsev.
To draw attention and create a platform for discussion, the NGO «Public Alliance «Women's Political Action» presented an installation symbolizing the desire to break the silence and create conditions for open conversation about violence issues in society, particularly domestic and gender-based violence.
During the event, the priority for Ukraine to implement the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) was discussed. Participants emphasized the need not only to respond promptly to dangerous cases but also to actively work on their prevention. In addition, Kyiv is putting considerable efforts not only into protecting victims but also into creating conditions for the rehabilitation of the affected, providing them psychological and legal support.
University students will also participate in a survey to assess their awareness and attitudes towards the issue of violence.
