In the capital of Ukraine, at the National Guard Medical Center, a remarkable combined reconstructive surgery was performed for a serviceman who suffered severe facial injuries from a mine explosion in April 2024.

This operation was made possible through an agreement between the National Guard Medical Center, the charity fund «Doctors for Heroes», and the company LLC «IMATECH MEDICAL».

The surgical team was led by professors from the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University: Yuriy Chepurnyi, an expert in maxillofacial surgery, and Oksana Petrenko, specializing in ophthalmology. Anesthesia was managed by a team under the direction of Volodymyr Steblyuk.

The specialists successfully reconstructed the zygomatic bone using a custom implant made from biocompatible PEEK material.

The next step involved placing a custom scleral implant, which prepared the patient for a future ocular prosthesis while preserving the eye's structural integrity.

«IMATECH MEDICAL» manufactured the patient-specific implant and played a role in the surgical planning and post-implantation technical support.

The «Doctors for Heroes» fund provided crucial assistance, supporting injured guardsmen throughout their treatment and rehabilitation by engaging leading specialists from healthcare institutions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Currently, the patient is feeling well, under medical supervision, and preparing for the next stages of treatment.
