On August 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the Order of Freedom to journalist Victoria Roshchyna, who was killed in Russian captivity in October 2024.

Zelensky shared this information on Instagram.

“In October 2024, we faced a profound loss: Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roshchyna died in captivity. She was already on the exchange list, and Russia had promised to release her but failed to keep its word.

Victoria was one of those who bravely reported the truth about the war. She worked at the front lines, risking her life in occupied territories.

In February, her body, bearing numerous signs of torture, was returned to Ukraine. All relevant examinations continued until today. Today, we honor the memory of Victoria Roshchyna posthumously. She has been awarded the Order of Freedom for her unwavering belief that freedom will triumph over all. Eternal memory to Victoria Roshchyna,” Zelensky stated.
