On the occasion of Navy Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Navy servicemen and honored them for their bravery and heroism.

The President expressed gratitude to the sailors for their efforts in fighting against Russian aggressors, which allows Ukraine to maintain its independence and security.

«We have defended our right to the Black Sea, pushing the enemy into remote areas. Control over Snake Island has been a significant step in ensuring the safety of maritime routes», – noted Zelensky.

The head of state also emphasized the importance of protecting Odesa and the southern coastline of Ukraine, especially in the early days of the full-scale war.

«This is a true feat of the Ukrainian people, the result of each of your efforts», – he added.

President highlighted the naval infantrymen defending the most challenging sections of the front.

Volodymyr Zelensky presented the «Golden Star» award to Senior Sergeant Denys Chumak, who commanded a landing craft crew that carried out numerous combat operations on the Dnipro River. Despite challenging circumstances, his team was able to fulfill all tasks of transport and evacuation.

The President called for honoring the memory of fallen heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom. All present paid tribute with a moment of silence.

The head of state awarded the mother of fallen sailor Artem Medvedev with the «Cross of Military Merit». Medvedev displayed heroism in carrying out numerous combat sorties, saving his comrades, and tragically lost his life during an attack.

Additionally, the President awarded Major Ihor Rak for successful combat actions, eliminating enemy positions and protecting Ukrainian interests.

Moreover, three soldiers received the Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Orders, thirteen were awarded the «For Courage» Orders, and one received the «Defender of the Fatherland» medal.
